NEWS FROM THE RIPON PUBLIC LIBRARY
January 2007
Happy New Year!
Magazine Update
Be sure to check out our great selection of new magazines!
Featured new magazine of January: "Martha Stewart Living".
Despite Martha's legal troubles, the magazine continues to deliver what it is known for: a beautifully illustrated set of directions for creating a home that is gracious, comfortable, and orderly. There are fewer pictures of the founder now than before, but issues still include ideas for gardening, cooking, collecting, decorating and crafts that have a lot of appeal for a wide range of home readers.
Book Delivery Service for the Homebound
The Ripon Public Library is offering book delivery service for the homebound in the community. Books can be delivered on a once monthly schedule to patrons living within the city limits. The Library has a great selection of fiction, nonfiction, audiovisual, and largeprint materials. To sign up yourself or someone you know, please stop by the Library Circulation Desk or call the Library at 920-748-6160.
Spotlight on Library Services-Interlibrary Loan
If you are looking for materials that are not available at the Ripon Public Library, there's a good chance we will be able to obtain them for you from another library.
The first place to look is on the Library's shared on-line catalog, which contains the holdings of many other libraries in the Winnefox Library System. Please note that items requested from other Winnefox libraries are NOT considered interlibrary loan items.
Materials not listed in the Winnefox online catalog are often available from other libraries in the state or nation.
If you're not sure if an item is available through interlibrary loan, a good place to check is the statewide library catalog known as WorldCat. This electronic catalog is available for use at the Library or via the Internet. It contains millions of records from libraries throughout the country and the world. You cannot request items directly through WorldCat, but you can verify the author and title and find out what library owns them. By giving this information to library staff, you will help the interlibrary loan process work more effectively. (ILL request forms are available at the circulation desk.) There is no charge for ILL requests.
Materials requested from another Winnefox system library may arrive within several days or less, depending on current circulation status, but may take considerably longer if they are in use at the libraries owning them, if they are lost or missing, or if you happen to be at the end of a long list of requests for that item. Materials requested from outside the Winnefox system may take weeks or months to arrive. Also, materials requested from colleges and universities tend to be delivered more slowly than those coming from public libraries.
To request items through interlibrary loan, either fill out an interlibrary loan request form at the circulation desk, call the Library (920-748-6160) or send an e-mail request to our ILL staff from the link on our webpage.
Speak Up For Your Library
Sign up to receive a monthly email update on library issues and occasional alerts about legislation affecting libraries. You'll be provided with information and perspective about those issues and will be urged to call, write or email lawmakers on significant issues of interest.
Your comments to elected officials can make a difference. Legislators have commented that most issues draw few comments and that as few as a half-dozen calls, letters, or emails from constituents can influence their decision-making.
By signing up, you'll provide us the opportunity to quickly notify you about issues that develop so you can take action if you choose. This effective form of communication also helps hold down expenses.
So make your voice heard. Sign up to participate today! You can sign up online at http://www.winnefox.org/email.asp.
