Magazine Update
We continue to get new and updated magazines! Be sure to check out our great selection!
Featured new magazine of April: "Bead and Button".
Bead and Button is devoted to beading, and is not limited to jewelry. All buy one or two of the articles are projects, the others are artists' profiles or information about materials. The projects are well designed and appealing. The instructions are clear and well written. They also have a number of columns on topics such as computers, ethnic, cultural, or historical beads, and techniques, tool and equipment reviews, a calendar and basic stitches.
Speak Up For Your Library
Sign up to receive a monthly email update on library issues and occasional alerts about legislation affecting libraries. You'll be provided with information and perspective about those issues and will be urged to call, write or email lawmakers on significant issues of interest.
Your comments to elected officials can make a difference. Legislators have commented that most issues draw few comments and that as few as a half-dozen calls, letters, or emails from constituents can influence their decision-making.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Korean War Stories Shared at Library
Area Korean War Veterans have been busy going through their attics, closets and basements in search of memories and mementos. Many have loaned pictures, artifacts, uniforms and assorted mementos to the Ripon Public Library for display during the months of March and April.
To honor these donors, their families and anyone who has a Korean Conflict experience or story to share, Ripon Public Library will host an informal gathering, open to the public, on Sunday, April 15 from 1:30-3 p.m. Come, gather with and learn from those who were there.
Light refreshments will be served.
Global Warming Movie Showing
In Al Gore's popular new book, An Inconvenient Truth, he discusses the problems that global warming will cause the earth if left unchecked. There was also a popular documentary made last year based on the book. Join us at the Library for a showing of the Global Warming movie. The movie will be held Monday, April 2, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lower Level of the Library. The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

Ripon High School Improv Team Comedy Performance
Get ready for a night of unpredictable laughs and talented local teenagers! The Ripon High School Improv Team will present a night of Improv Comedy on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lower Level of the Ripon Public Library. This event is free and open to the public.
David Houghton to speak at Ripon Public Library "Global Climate Change-Challenges, Uncertainties, and Impacts"
Ripon Public Library and the UW Speakers Bureau are pleased to announce that David Houghton will present a talk on global warming and its impacts. Professor David Houghton will appear at Ripon Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.
Celebrate National Library Week at the Ripon Public Library!
April 15-21 marks National Library Week. Help celebrate with activities at Ripon Public Library! The Library will be hosting an Open House all day on Tuesday, April 17, 2007. There will be free-guided tours starting at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Coffee and muffins will be available throughout the morning, and there will be a cake cutting ceremony at 4:00 p.m. Please join us! Also, anyone who checks out library materials that day will be entered in a drawing for a gift basket from local businesses.
Researching the Trail of the Underground Railroad Using Local Resources
The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring their annual meeting and program beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 in the Lower Level of the Library. Jennifer Giedd will be presenting an informative and interactive presentation on the Underground Railroad in Wisconsin. All are welcome!

Yarn Addicts @ Play, comprised of anyone who has a yearning to yarn, continues to meet at the Ripon Public Library on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Through Easter we will be working on crocheted eggs!
Anyone and everyone is invited to join in. There is no registration; no fee; no stress and no commitment. No experience is necessary. There IS, camaraderie; instruction; laughter and freely flowing creative juices.

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR CHILDREN

Storytime schedule: March 27 - May 16
Lapsit, will take place on Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m. March 27 through May 15. This session is designed for 18-30 month old toddlers and will last about 20 minutes. Focus will be on music, movement, books, language and pre-literacy skills. Ideally, caregivers attend with one child, that child sitting in their lap, encouraging that they jointly participate in the program.
Toddler Time will take place on Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m. beginning March 28 and ending May 16. This session is designed for 2 ½ - 4 year olds and will last from 30-45 minutes. Focus will be on music, movement, books, language, crafts and developing pre-literacy skills.
Storytime is a lively and fun way for caregivers to interact with their children while learning a love of language and books. Registration is required and begins Monday, March 19.

In honor of National Library Week, all first graders in Ripon are invited to the library in April for a special program and issuance of their first library card!!

School's Out Movie Day April 2nd
A homeless kid, fast runners, dirty land developers, corrupt police and the cutest little owls on the face of the Earth are all stars in this fantastic movie to be shown at 2:00. Refreshments served and prizes awarded. HINT- read the book by Carl Hiaasen first to increase your chances of winning.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale
This month's sale will be held April 5. If you are interested in donating items for the book sale, please bring the items in during the Library's open hours. Items accepted include books of all kinds, magazines, musical recordings, videos and computer software. You may leave the items in the entryway near the elevator.
Book Discussion Group
The Friends of the Ripon Public Library book discussion group meets once a month in the library's Nash Room. Books are selected by members of the group, and the library borrows copies from other libraries for everyone who is interested. Books are usually by American or English authors, but may include some by authors writing in a foreign language. The selection for April is Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
The Friends of the Library sponsor activities in support of The Ripon Public Library. Looking for a great gift? How about a Friends of the Library gift membership? New members are always welcome!! Please contact the library for more information.
