NEWS FROM THE RIPON PUBLIC LIBRARY

Be sure to check out our great selection of new magazines!
Featured new magazine of September: "Esquire".

This magazine covers a few current events and contributors are often
well known. Politicians are often quoted in some of the more serious
features, and other in-depth articles include things such as a "Desire
Survey" that focuses on the libido. Pictures are both in black and
white and in color and are excellent. Movies, books, and men's fashions
are highlighted, and the ads are appropriate for the male audience
looking for leisure reading.

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR ADULTS

The Art of African Storytelling
    	Professor Harold Scheub

     	Thursday, September 21
    	6:30 p.m.

A professor of African languages and literature at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, Harold Scheub has taught and conducted research in
eastern and southern Africa, and has authored several books, most
recently, "The Tongue Is Fire" and "Secret Fire and Story". "A
Dictionary of African Mythology: The Mythmaker as Storyteller" was
recently published by Oxford University Press. He has spent ten years
in Africa. During four year-long trips to that continent, Professor
Scheub walked some 6,000 miles, collecting oral stories, poetry, and
history, which he shares with his students and the public in seminars
that he teaches.

Knitting Group
Thursdays, 6:30-7:45 p.m.
Anyone with an interest in knitting, crocheting, or other stitching
crafts, is encouraged to join others for stitching and fellowship in the
lower level of the library. Everyone is invited; no age requirements and
no experience necessary.
A joint project, for philanthropic giving, is typically underway,
although stitchers are welcome to bring their own projects to work on as
well. Joint projects are created out of donated yarn. (Yarn donations
are always welcome.) The current joint project is the creation of 3-4
blankets to be donated to the Linus Project, which provides blankets to
people in need.
