NEWS FROM THE NEENAH PUBLIC LIBRARY March-April 2008 

The Library will be closed Sunday, March 23 for the Easter holiday.

Author Alice Hoffman will be coming to the Neenah Public Library on Friday, April 18 at 10:00 a.m.!
Distinguished novelist Alice Hoffman has published twenty novels for adults and several books for children and young adults. Her novels have received mention as notable books of the year by New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, The Lost Angeles Times, Library Journal and People Weekly. Her book, Here on Earth, was an Oprah Book Club selection. The newest "Fox Cities Reads" titles, both by Alice Hoffman, are Blackbird House and Green Angel. Copies of the books are available at the library. Don't miss this event! Seating is limited; first come, first served. Neenah Kids Read One Book Together! 2008 Kids Community Reading Celebration featuring The Last Dragon by Silvana De Mari. 
All youth of Neenah (ages 9 and up) and their families are invited to read one exceptional book together-to celebrate the power of books to enrich our lives! Register to read The Last Dragon and receive a free dragon finger puppet. Copies of the book are available at the Youth Services Desk. 
Saturday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m. (9- and 10-year olds) and 1 p.m. (ages 11 and up): Dragon crafts.
Saturday, March 22, 1 p.m. and Saturday, March 29, 1 p.m.: Book discussions.

MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY
Sunday, Feb. 24, 2 p.m.: North Country Drifters Western Swing Band
Western Swing music of the 1930s, 40s and 50s-including classic songs from Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Milton Brown and Ernest Tubb. Real cowboy music!

Friday, March 7, 1 p.m.: Adam Luker and Emily Robida: Trombone and Piano Recital. A "First Friday" program. 

Sunday, March 16, 2 p.m.:  "Eau-de-vie! Au dela! I Love This Game of Love": Songs of Honegger, Debussy, Poulenc and Massenet with Karen Leigh-Post, mezzo soprano; Tad Hardin, piano; assisted by Emily Fink, soprano.

Friday, April 4, 1 p.m.: Bass and Piano Recital with Mark Urness and Mary Van De Loo. A "First Friday" program. 

Sunday, April 6, 2 p.m.: Vale Todo Salsa Band
Cuban-New York style salsa and Latin jazz with influences from Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Rubén Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Chucho Valdés, Héctor Lavoe. 12-piece band with students from Lawrence University! Also: A demonstration of Salsa Dancing with Sandra Wunderlich from Menasha's Fox Valley Dance Studio!

Friday, May 2, 1 p.m.: Elizabeth and Lee Tomboulian: Sounds of Brazil! This season's last "First Friday" program. Programs will resume in fall 2008. 

Refreshments served at all concerts. Concerts at the library are always free and open to the public!

A joint program of the Fox Valley Humane Association and the Neenah Public Library. Children read to specially trained therapy dogs to improve reading skills and develop confidence.

Babytime: Babies birth through 12 mos. Wednesdays or Thursdays, 9:15 a.m.
Toddletime: Toddlers 12 mos. through 23 mos. Tuesdays or Fridays, 10:30 a.m.
Lapsit: 2-year olds with caregiver. Thursdays, 9:15 or 10 a.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m.
Our Time: 3-, 4-, and 5-year olds without caregiver. Tuesdays, 9:15 a.m. or Wednesdays, 1 p.m.
Storycraft: 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-year olds without caregiver. Fridays, 1:00 p.m. on the following dates: Jan. 11, 18, 25; Feb. 8, 15, 22; March 14, 21, 28; April 11, 18, 25; May 9, 16, 23.
