NEWS FROM THE NEENAH PUBLIC LIBRARY September-October 2007 

Please note: The library will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 3 and Monday,
Sept. 4 for the Labor Day holiday.
Summer hours run through the Labor Day weekend. 
Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 9
a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; closed Sunday. 

Winter hours resume on Tuesday, September 4. 
Winter hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 9

MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY
Sunday, Oct. 28, 2 p.m.: Yid Vicious Klezmer Band
Join us for the traditional instrumental folk music of Yiddish culture!
Yid Vicious consists of 7 band members and their musical arsenal of
clarinets, saxophones, fiddle, horn, vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin,
prima, drums and theremin. Described as "extravagantly entertaining" and
winner of "Best World Music Artist" award of the Madison area. 

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2 p.m.: Lonesome Aces Bluegrass Quartet
One of southern Wisconsin's finest! Featuring original bluegrass in the
traditional style-with award-winning musicians John Fabke and Jon
Vriesacker on fiddle.

Kids Reading to Canines
Children and dogs bond over shared stories! Kids in 1st through 4th
grades can read aloud to dogs for 15 minute sessions. An introductory
program will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. Parents and kids
will have a chance to meet and greet the dogs and their handlers, then
the kids will make "canine crafts" while parents further discuss the
program with Molly Johnson, Therapy Dog Community Enrichment Program
Coordinator, Fox Valley Humane Association. Families who wish to sign up
will register their child for a specific time to read to the dogs.
Reading times: Saturday, Oct. 20; Saturday, Nov. 10, Saturday, Dec. 15.

SHAKESPEARE ON THE FOX 
The Neenah Public Library is participating in the Shakespeare on the Fox
project in fall 2007 in conjunction with the Fox Cities Performing Arts
Center, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Lawrence University and
other local organizations. The project, which brings together community
groups throughout the valley, celebrates the work of William
Shakespeare.

I Looked Into My Heart Poetry Circle
Thursday, Sept. 13, 1 p.m.: Meet Coleman Barsk in this fascinating film,
preeminent translator of 13th Century Persian mystic poet, Rumi. For
seven centuries, Rumi's poetry has been sung in the Islamic world. 

Thursday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m.: Film about American Poet Laureates Robert
Pinsky, Ted Kooser, Stanley Kunitz, Robert Hass, Billy Collins and
Donald Hall. The group will discuss the poetry of Stanley Kunitz. Note:
This session will meet in the story hour room on first floor.

Thursday, Nov. 8, 1:00 p.m.: Watch the film, The Legend of Arthur in
Literature and Popular Culture, and discuss the enduring fascination
with King Arthur in Britain and America since the Victorian age.
Tennyson's "Idylls of the King" and other works will be highlighted.
