AN evening at the bazaar Ah, smell the tarragon! Taste the hummus! Savor the cucumber yogurt! It?s an adventure in flavor and culture at An Evening at the Bazaar. The public is invited to come ready for a unique experience at 6:30 p.m., Friday, February 29, at the UW-FDL Commons. The bazaar will kick off the Fond du Lac Public Library?s month-long Fond du Lac Reads Program and its selection of ?The Kite Runner,? by Khaled Hosseini, a novel set in revolutionary Afghanistan. Stroll through the bazaar to sample Middle Eastern appetizers such as hummus with lemon and flat bread, Middle Eastern meatballs with cucumber dipping sauce, lemon pepper tarragon chicken kabobs, bacon-wrapped dates, baklava, a cash bar and much more. The highlight of the bazaar will be the unveiling of the 30 winning entries for Kites Over Main Street, a friendly competition that invited the public to submit kite-design artwork. Winning selections will be transformed into kite-shaped streetlight banners and hung on downtown Fond du Lac streetlights during March. All Kites Over Main Street entries will be on display, and all artists will be eligible for a drawing for three special awards at the bazaar. There is no admission cost for An Evening at the Bazaar. The Middle Eastern hors d?oeuvres will be sold by the piece, and beverages will be available for sale. Middle Eastern music will be played throughout the evening. Fond du Lac Reads is a series of events and programs intended to entice everyone in the community to read the same book at the same time. The goal of the series is to engender community discussion of topical issues and to have fun reading. ?The Kite Runner? is a best selling novel recently made into a feature film. It is a story of betrayal and redemption set in Afghanistan from the late seventies to the present day. It gives an excellent picture of Afghan life and culture. An Evening at the Bazaar is sponsored by Linstrom?s Catering, the Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library, UW-FDL and Windhover Center for the Arts.
