Two hundred people benefited from 30 free computer classes held in 2006. The library is forced to borrow the equipment for each class. Often, the equipment is unavailable. Having a permanent computer lab at the library would enable the library to teach more classes. * Most of the DVDs and CDs damaged each year could be saved with the proper equipment. The purchase of an RTI? disc check machine would extend the life of these materials while saving replacement money for new purchases. * Funds are needed to replace the library?s 15 year old microfilm equipment. Some units can no longer print. New digital equipment would allow users to print, save documents to a flash drive, or email them to their home computer. In 2006 the FDL Public Library received the Library of the Year award from the Wisconsin Library Association. ?New and creative uses of technology? was cited as a contributing factor in helping the library earn this award.
